I run my classes from my cake studio in Newton Mearns. It is a fabulous space with lots of natural light – a perfect place to escape into the world of cake decorating! During 2020 my classes went online via Zoom and we had great fun. As we head into 2021, and don’t know when we might be able to resume face to face classes, I will continue to offer an online alternative as set out below.

I have been an accredited Cake Minds teacher since late 2019. Rhu Strand is the lady behind Cake Minds, and seeks to bring together like minded cakey people for chat, company and skill sharing – the idea is that you get to know the people in your support group, through sharing our love for all things cake. I’m sure you will all admit (after the year we have all experienced) that these groups and interests are essential for our mental health.

Cake Minds 2021 is heading online! Whilst we will continue to offer face to face sessions when we are able to, we also recognise that the last year has seen changes to how we all interact and communicate.

Through Cake Minds, I will be offering online monthly Skills Support Sessions, as well as offering online modelling classes. The online modelling classes will cover a specific project each month and can be booked individually. These projects will also be run on a face to face basis when we can safely resume face to face classes.

By paying £10 per month you can become a Cake Minds member. This gives you:

• Monthly Cake Minds magazine with tutorials, recipes and lots of hints and tips
• Priority booking for online modelling classes at a reduced fee of £15 per class (£35 to non-members)

Cake Minds Skills Support Sessions

The Skills Support sessions give Cake Mind members an opportunity to get together on a monthly basis for an hour via Zoom, for a coffee, chat and a demonstration by me. This could cover anything from how to cover a cake, through to how to make ganache, or how to add models to a cake. For our first sessions I’m planning on covering my end to end process for making a fondant covered cake, including baking, cutting and filling, ganaching and covering in fondant. This will be in the form of short demos by me on each of our monthly sessions, covering a different stage each month.

Cake Minds Online Monthly Modelling Classes

There are currently 8 online modelling classes which are available to book. Each of these classes will take place via Zoom and last around 2 hours. Attendance at the modelling classes, and working through each module, counts towards your Cake Minds Sugarcraft Diploma. If you are a Cake Minds Member (see above) each class costs £15. If you are not a Cake Minds member, each class costs £35. I will provide a list of everything you need for each class in advance of the class.

Cupcakes by Gillian Online Classes

The following classes were extremely popular during 2020! They all take place via Zoom and last around 2.5 hours. It’s fine for all the family to join in – you only have to book one place on the class. Once you have purchased the class, you will be able to download a document containing all the information you need for the class, including the Zoom details, recipes and equipment lists, and where to buy.
