T&Cs/FAQ

Cakes, cupcakes & other edible goods

Allergen information

My cakes are created in a kitchen that uses nuts, products containing gluten, products containing eggs & dairy. I can make gluten free, egg free, nut free and dairy cakes, however I cannot guarantee that traces of gluten, dairy, eggs and nuts may not be present in the cakes due to the risk of cross contamination. The customer is responsible for advising their guests of this and Cupcakes by Gillian will not accept any liability for any loss, damage or injury from exposure to anything which might cause an allergic reaction such as  (without limitation) nuts, nut products or alcohol.

The customer will be advised at time of cake collection if the cake or cupcakes contain anything which is not edible – although the icing, petals and leaves are edible some decorations are not, such as wired flowers, ribbons, jewels, board etc. The customer is responsible for advising their guests of this and Cupcakes by Gillian will not accept any liability of any loss, damage, or injury arising from any such exposure.

A non-refundable deposit of 50% is required at the time of booking to secure your date in the diary. The balance is payable on collection of your cake or cupcakes. Payments can be made by cash or via bank transfer.

All cancellations must be made in writing. All deposits are non-refundable. Any cancellations made less than 14 days before delivery of order will only be made at the companies discretion. The company cannot provide a refund for any products that have already been made.

Collections/delivery of your cake/cupcakes

All orders are required to be collected from Newton Mearns, Glasgow G77. I cannot offer delivery at this time.

Once your order has been collected, the customer is responsible for the cake and Cupcakes by Gillian will not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage arising during transportation. All large cakes should be transported on the floor of the car in the footwell, or flat in the boot.

Customer satisfaction

If you are not 100% satisfied with your product, please get in touch within 24 hours of receiving it to report any problems. We do not accept returned goods. Any problems can be discussed and any refunds will be given at the discretion of Cupcakes by Gillian.

Storing your cakes

Once collected your cake or cupcakes should be kept at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Cupcakes are best eaten within 1-2 days of being collected. Cake pops and cakesicles should keep well for 3-4 days after collection. Larger cakes, once cut, should be kept in an airtight container and should keep well for 4-5 days. Never put your cakes in the fridge as they will dry out.

Classes – online classes

Online classes are limited to 8-10 participants. If, after booking an online class, you are unable to attend, we are unfortunately unable to offer a refund for any reason.

If you would like your kids to join you for the online Zoom session, that’s absolutely fine – you only need to pay for one space on the class.

Classes – general

I am a complete beginner – are your classes suitable for me?

Our classes are suitable for both beginners and intermediate cakers – some of the sugar modelling classes are aimed at participants with some level of experience with modelling but that will be made clear in the class description.

Do I need to bring anything with me for the classes?

Everything you need for the class will be provided to you for use during the class, including aprons. You do not need to bring anything with you. We would however ask that you bring some soft soled indoor shoes for wearing during the class, as we have recently had a new wooden floor laid in the cake studio.

How big are the classes?

Classes are held in small groups with a maximum attendance of between 6 and 8 students depending on the class.

How can I pay?

Classes can be booked online via Paypal, or via bank transfer. Payment is required in full at time of booking a class. Your place on the class is not confirmed until the deposit is paid.

I can’t come to the class now as something’s come up, what can I do?

If after booking your class you are unable to attend, we are unfortunately unable to offer a refund for any reason. If you would like someone to attend in your absence we will need their full name and email information 24 hours before the class commences in order for us to send the full class details.

In the unlikely event that we need to cancel a class you are booked to attend, we will offer an alternative date which is suitable to you. In the unfortunate event that we are unable to find a date to suit you, we will refund you the full purchase price paid for your class. Our liability is limited to this sum (the cost you paid for the class). By purchasing a class, you accept that our liability is limited to the cost of the class place (the cost you paid at the time of booking) and you cannot make a claim for costs of other arrangements you may have made in order to attend a class whatever they may be.  For the avoidance of doubt, this includes costs of transportation, accommodation or anything else.

I want to teach cake decorating courses, can I share the skills I have been taught?

Permission is given solely to reproduce the subjects of the classes you have attended, for personal consumption or for sale in your own business – eg sugar models for cake toppers, cupcake bouquets and cakepops for sale, but you are not permitted to teach any of the designs or structures you have learnt on the classes, including any of the cupcake bouquet, Cake Dutchess or Cake Minds designs.

If any student is found to be doing so at any time legal action and damages will be sought.

Do you do classes for children?

All of our classes are designed to be run as adult classes, however children aged 12 or over may attend if accompanied by a paying adult. I do not offer childrens’ cake decorating parties at the current time.
